Oracle 18c Database – Autonomous Database Cloud

Posted by at

At Oracle OpenWorld 2017, Oracle Chairman of the Board and CTO Larry Ellison unveiled his vision for the world’s first autonomous database cloud. Powered by Oracle Database 18c, the next generation of the industry-leading database, Oracle Autonomous Database Cloud uses ground-breaking machine learning to enable automation that eliminates human labor, human error and manual tuning, to enable unprecedented availability, high performance and security at a much lower cost.

Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse Cloud is a next-generation cloud service built on the self-driving Oracle Autonomous Database technology using machine learning. Machine learning enabled the automation of Oracle’s next gen database as well as cybersecurity system, which is in the process of becoming fully automated.

It is disaster for it Industry. It will be certainly cut-off jobs of DBAs, PL/SQL developers. But students and teachers have an opportunity to change/focus in different arenas like Cloud computing.

I think DBAs need to be more focused on Applications now. Data Security, Architecture Design, Schema Design, Tuning and also various other things for which DBA is required. Yes if someone is limited to Installation, Patching and Backup/Recovery, he needs to upgrade quickly. Majority of the DBAs do backup, recovery and patching only. I think they should now switch to other databases otherwise it will be too late for them. Oracle ditched them so badly. With cloud repeated maintenance jobs like Installation, Patching and Backup/Recovery are at risk. Data Security, Architecture Design, Schema Design, Tuning and also various other things for which DBA is required.

New opportunities will be emerged into CLOUD COMPUTING AND Machine learning arenas.
